We’ve been cooped up in homes with our loved ones for a while now but spending time with our partner while exploring and experiencing something new is a different type of adventure! Read on for a quick 24-hour trip to Giles with the one you love… romance, water, wine, and food included!

Arrive in the evening

Getting to Giles County, Virginia is part of the fun! We are easily located on Route 460 between Blacksburg, Virginia and Interstate 81, and Princeton, West Virginia along Interstate 77. Roanoke Airport is less than an hour away and they also have train service. Route 460 is the backbone of all things Giles, but there are plenty of opportunities to jump off the main road and explore our country backroads.

For your getaway, the Inn at Riverbend, awarded Most Romantic B&B for multiple years is your place of rest and relaxation. This seven-room inn has New River views and wrap-around, multi-level porches to enjoy. Plus, it puts you in the middle of all the outdoor recreation you could want for your visit to Giles.

Breakfast is included with your stay at the Inn at Riverbend, but should you need extra snacks and yumminess for your day, you’ll want to check out Hilltop Grocery with some of the best homemade doughnuts around! Once you have gotten your needed nutrients and enjoyed the morning, call to make your appointment with JBR Vineyards. This private tasting experience showcases 100% locally grown and bottled wines from the region. You can visit their vineyard and bring home bottles of wine, including their specialties Riesling and Pinot Noir.

Coming back into ‘town’ allows for a yummy, homemade, Virginia BBQ lunch at Bluegrass BBQ in Pembroke. This lively establishment has both indoor and outdoor dining. Their unique style of BBQ with robust portions makes this a great couple’s place to share and try multiple things from the menu, frog legs included!

 

 

Now that you have sipped and eaten, you will find yourself in Pembroke. You are right along the New River and there is a quick, easy float you can enjoy! At New River’s Edge guests can enjoy a short 30-minute float from the Pembroke Boat Landing down to the riverfront property. Along the float you get to experience a little ripple action and swimming. The Edge also allows for great wading or resting by a campfire after your float. There are many options along the New River Water Trail if you find yourself with more time or looking for a longer float option too!

Finish out your 24 hours in Giles with a premier dining experience at The Palisades Restaurant. Located in the Village of Eggleston, not far, but far enough from Route 460, the drive out to the restaurant provides amazing views of the New River. The Palisades features contemporary Appalachian cuisine with locally sourced ingredients. You can enjoy steak or trout with specialty crafted sides or one of their many seasonal brick oven pizza choices. Their wine and beer selections are outstanding, and the ambiance is perfect! They are located inside an old general store building and have converted next door into a local artisan gift shop. A cannot miss spot on your visit!
