Bring the whole family along for the pick-your-own experience and enjoy reliving the memories at home as you taste each apple you picked. DELAWARE

Statewide

You can pick your own produce in Delaware no matter where you may find yourself in “The First State.” Within the heart of Delaware, Kent County’s Fifer Orchards offers apple picking excursions. Afterwards, taste a sweet treat at their farm store, like their famous apple cider donuts. In Sussex County, T.S. Smith and Sons has been selling its own produce for over 100 years. Pick your own apples and stop by their fresh bakery and deli! For a unique experience, visit Ramsey’s Farm in New Castle County to find fresh produce, pick pumpkins and sunflowers, and explore fun fall-themed activities.

Harford County (MD)

Lohr’s Orchard is a family-owned farm with deep roots in Harford County, proudly serving the community for 97 years. Owned and operated by Candace (Lohr) and her husband Darryl Pearce, the orchard is a true local gem. Enjoy a fun-filled apple-picking season with a wide variety of apples and savor the taste of freshly made apple cider donuts, apple cider, and homemade pies at their charming retail farm stand. Gettysburg & Adams County (PA)

Adams County is not only home to the famous Gettysburg battlefield, but also where a thriving farming community grows more apples than any other county in Pennsylvania.
Visitors can try their hand at apple picking at Boyer Nurseries & Orchards, where they can also sip wine at Boyer Cellars, explore the hedge maze and stroll through the nursery. Apple picking can also be found at Hollabaugh Bros., where trees grow beside their indoor market full of fresh produce, made-from-scratch baked goods, locally grown meats and more. Be sure to swing by their Donut Drop slide on your way out!

Lancaster County (PA)

Apple-pickin’ memories can be had by the wagonful in Lancaster County. Cherry Hill Orchards offers 45 varieties of apples to choose from, and also provides a handy chart listing the harvesting season for each variety. Kauffman’s Fruit Farm & Market has 50 acres of apple trees to wander through, and Masonic Village Farm Market & Orchard grows over 60 varieties (plus Farmer Tad’s award-winning cider!).

Lebanon Valley (PA)

While you can find fresh apples at many of the markets around the Valley, you can also pick your own apples at a number of orchards too! Gray’s Apple Ridge Orchard in Jonestown offers 13 varieties of pick-your-own apples from mid-September through October. At Sycamore Spring Orchard, also located in Jonestown, 10 varieties of apples can be found throughout the orchard, which is open mid-August through October. And at Honey Bear Orchards in Lebanon, you’ll find six varieties of apples for a pick-your-own experience that runs from early September into October.

York County (PA)

York County, PA is apple-picking paradise, and there’s no better way to savor the season than by visiting the area’s orchards. Start your adventure at Flinchbaugh’s Orchard & Farm Market for PYO apples and a wagon ride, then head to Mount Airy Orchards, where the family fun includes a giant corn maze. Shaw Orchards offers classic countryside charm – and no fall tour is complete without a stop at Brown’s Orchards & Farm Market, where farm-fresh goodies make it a local favorite. Whether you’re filling a bushel or just in it for the cider and donuts, York County’s apple season is ripe with adventure.

VIRGINIA

Loudoun County (VA)

Loudoun is renowned for its grapes but from July-September it’s apple-picking season too. At Great Country Farms in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the whole family can wander into the orchards to pick sweet ripe honey crisps straight from the trees. Then it’s back to the cozy farm market for Rooster coffee and fresh apple cider donuts. Meanwhile, at historic Crooked Run Orchard in Purcellville, pick from trees laden with ripe Rome, Golden Delicious and Red Delicious varietals. Open through September, you can also pick fruit from the ground and use it for applesauce.

Celebrate The King of golf in his hometown. Arnold Palmer’s Country Club, where the seven-time major champion learned to play, isn’t open to the public, but two lodging options provide access. Stay in an-own property home or at the SpringHill Suites in Latrobe and get in the game. Standard greens fees apply. Reservations and tee times must be made in advance.

The Avalon Field Club at New Castle was established in 1923 as the New Castle Field Club and the original club crest is still hanging in the renovated Great Room in the Clubhouse. Close to the banks of the Potomac in Sterling, east Loudoun, Algonkian Golf Course is one of the finest public courses in Virginia, with 18 holes of immaculately maintained Bermuda grass fairways, a tree-lined front nine with three water holes and a back nine with doglegs and hazards. Work on your swing beforehand on the driving range facing the river. Kent County (DE)

Central Delaware has plenty of farm-fresh produce to go around and many farmers markets to explore! All year round, you can try Spence’s Bazaar & Amish Market in Historic Downtown Dover, a market that has been operating for over 85 years, or Fifer’s Orchards & Farm Store, located in Camden-Wyoming. From April through October, Adams County Farmers Market brings together local vendors selling produce, meat, eggs, dairy products, baked goods, and more at Gettysburg Rec Park. Laurel Highlands (PA)

There’s a reason that Ligonier Country Market, which is celebrating its 50th year in 2025, has been voted as the best farmers market in Pennsylvania. The largest and oldest farmers market in Western Pennsylvania, it’s a Saturday morning staple in this portion of the state. The Laurel Highlands region has strong agricultural roots, and the 120 vendors who gather in a large field outside the idyllic town of Ligonier offer freshly picked produce and flowers along with straight-from-the-farm beef, poultry, and eggs.
